Very extensive collection of maps used or made by curators and other departmental field collectors, principally for areas in the American West; many types of geological maps such as stratigraphic maps, contour maps and those produced by the United States Geological Survey; and many aerial photographs, stratigraphic charts, published and unpublished worksheets, atlases, road maps, hand drawn maps showing collecting localities, and maps depicting sections. Most maps were used in the field by Theodore Galusha, Barnum Brown, Morris Skinner, and George Gaylord Simpson. Some maps are marked to show specific localities where fossils were found. Also, topological land reconnaisance maps prepared for the Central Asiatic Expeditions, 1920s.

George Gaylord Simpson was a vertebrate paleontologist perhaps best known for his contributions to the founding and further articulation of the modern evolutionary synthesis.
